Feasibility and adoption

We offer you rapid access to expert opinion and support. We advise if your study is compatible with UK practice. And we match your needs with sites that have the capability to deliver your study on time and to target.

Our Network Industry Liaison Managers provide a single point of contact for you to access two levels of feasibility assessment.

Level 1 feasibility - two weeks
A rapid top line assessment by key opinion leaders, active researchers and clinicians. We will advise you if you can carry out your study in the NHS, whether it's compatible with UK practice and where you will find the patients you need.

Level 2 feasibility - four weeks
Following completion of Level 1 feasibility, we conduct an in-depth feasibility that generates Expressions of Interest from UK investigators. This service will identify who has the capability and capacity to conduct your study, saving you vauable time during set-up. Level 2 culminates with an adoption panel which will assess a study’s eligibility for inclusion on the NIHR CRN Portfolio.

What criteria does the adoption panel consider?

Starting your application

There are two ways of starting the feasibility and adoption process for your study:

  1. Contact the appropriate Clinical Research Network directly or
  2. On submission of your validated CSP application form the appropriate Network will be notified about your study and will contact you.

The feasibility and adoption process is coordinated in parallel to the NHS Permissions (CSP) process therefore timelines are not adversely affected.

Site identification

The Clinical Research Network can help you identify the sites you need to deliver your study to time and target. Following this match-making process, we can arrange company-specific Confidential Disclosure Agreements CDAs and circulate full protocols. We can also collect additional feasibility information from investigators/sites that offer you details of the relevant patient population.

All correspondence to sites should be copied to the local Clinical Research Network staff assigned to the study to aid effective coordination and management.

Notification regarding the adoption panel decision will be within four weeks from receipt of the documents.

The outcome will be either:

  • adoption (further clarification/comments will be required before the decision is made) or
  • your study is not adopted and an explanation will be provided.

How do I know which Network to submit my application to?

The Clinical Research Network is made up of eight Networks and each has a coordinating centre with a single point of contact for companies wishing to discuss commercial research. Contact the Network best placed to support your study, or if you are unsure Study start-up
