More about us

What type of support do we provide?

Comprehensive Local Research Networks (CLRNs) work with their local NHS organisations to support clinical research, as set out in Health Service Guidelines and Attributing revenue costs of externally funded non-commercial research in the NHS (ARCO).

This support includes:

  • Provision for a core team to lead and manage the function and activity of the CLRN including research management and governance and information management
  • Protected time (or equivalent) for clinicians of all professions who are actively engaged in the recruitment of patients to studies which are on the NIHR CRN Portfolio, this may include PAs for medical staff, part or whole time equivalent research nurses and other AHPs
  • Appropriate infrastructure in the primary care setting e.g. practice nurse, receptionist or manager time
  • Appropriate service support infrastructure for the six topic specific research networks
  • Identifiable clinical service support, particularly in pharmacy, pathology and radiology
  • Provision to support the development of the workforce engaged in the recruitment of patients including compliance with any legal/statutory requirements
  • An allocation to the host organisation of the CLRN to provide high quality corporate management services e.g. HR, finance, estates.
