Research governance is the key to ensuring robust procedures are in place for all research that takes place within the NHS.
My career in 1994 as a receptionist/administrator for various GP practices across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. After five years, it was time to try something different with more career opportunities and I went to work in the pathology department at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. Whilst working in pathology the opportunity arouse for me to train as a Phlebotomist, this enabled me to work across various areas within Pathology ie: outpatients and going on to the wards. Not wanting to have the reputation as a vampire and again looking to further my career the opportunity to work in the local Research and Development Department.
Back in 2004 I started as the R&D Facilitator having absolutely no idea what MREC, LREC and MHRA were and how to even access the NRES website (as it was called back in the day) with lots of support along the way and some good teacher it was not long before I became a key member of the department. Five years and many submissions, amendments
approval letters later, I up sticks again (following Margaret Cooper, Senior Manger) and moved to Preston Business Centre to join the Cumbria & Lancashire CLRN RM&G Team.
As the RM&G Co-ordinator my main responsible is for PCT approvals across North Lancashire PCT and Blackburn with Darwen CTP. Approving studies via CSP, RDMIS and even the “the old fashioned way” if needed. This is only a brief overview of what I do on a daily basis.
