E&H CLRN Joint Staff Meeting held on 23rd June 2011

Many thanks to all who had contributed to the CLRN Joint Staff meeting and to Gill Hibbins and Elaine Anderson for organising the day. 67 delegates attended on the day. Key agenda for the meeting was working in Cluster Teams. The particular focus was on the local research teams who used real studies examples for discussing effective set up and support for research.

All teams were asked to map out study milestones and to identify local expertise, capacity and to review potential risks and barriers to successful progress of their chosen study. Also, to watch out for any duplication of efforts within the team to then translate any ‘lessons learnt’ and good practice into their local approaches, systems and processes.

After the event, all teams will be monitoring progress of their chosen studies to ensure these recruit their 1st research participant within 70 days from the valid R&D application received by RMG staff.

Presentations and photographs from the day are available in the Document Library.

The next Joint Staff Meeting will be held on 24th Nov 2011. Please send your suggestions for the agenda to clrn@northeastessex.nhs.uk

The Local Enhanced Service

This scheme is available to primary care teams to enable them to develop an infrastructure for research and funds protected time to enable increased participation of the local NHS and its service users in NIHR CRN Portfolio studies.

There are three steps to access different levels of funding and support according to experience and track record with recruitment to the NIHR CRN Portfolio.

Applications are welcomed throughout the year and will be assessed through a competitive process (please see application form for details). The first step is automatic for all new NIHR research recruitment sites.

Raising public awareness of NIHR primary care health research: Customised waiting room screen presentations

Essex and Hertfordshire CLRN is currently piloting the use of DVD presentations to run on TV screens in patient waiting areas in General Practices. These presentations include generic information to help raise public awareness to benefits of participating in high quality health research. In addition, each DVD includes a bespoke section of the presentation introducing the research team within the practice and some of the studies that the individual practices are currently involved in.

Ambrose Surgery in Colchester, Essex was the first surgery to test this concept for us and the pilot presentation.

If you are involved in NIHR Clinical Research Network studies and have a TV screen in your waiting room we would be delighted to include you in our pilot by creating a DVD to promote your research team and studies that you are recruiting to. For more information, please contact:
