Commercial cancer study in Manchester recruits first global patient

Pennine Acute Trust recruits the first patient in a GW Pharma cancer study

Well done to the research staff at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust for recruiting the first global patient into a commercial cancer study.

The study, which is being sponsored by GW Pharma Limited, is looking at the use of a new treatment for relieving chronic pain in patients with advanced cancer. It is being carried out at two of Pennine Acute Trust’s hospitals: North Manchester General Hospital and Fairfield General Hospital.

Alistair Davison, Clinical Operations Manager for GW Pharma Limited, said: "Well done to everyone at the Trust, especially Dr Iain Lawrie and the research team, on this excellent achievement. Not only have the staff recruited the first global patient, but it was also quick to set-up, taking only a month to have all the necessary approvals and be set-up. This has been a really impressive achievement."
