Reproductive Health and Childbirth

Lead - Dr Leroy Edozien

Dr Leroy EdozienReproductive Health and Childbirth is one of the Local Specialty Groups within the Human Development Super Group. It is led by Dr Leroy Edozien (pictured). Its scope includes:

  • physiological investigation of pregnancy and childbirth
  • maternity/childbirth research
  • reproductive medicine and contraception
  • urogynaecology
  • fetal medicine
  • maternal medicine

Gynaecological oncology is not included in this group, as it is in the Cancer Research Network.

Each of the Trusts providing women’s health services in our catchment area has a nominated lead person for Reproductive Health and Childbirth who is responsible for liaising with the CLRN.

We have a network of research midwives and nurses and a Midwife Research Coordinator.

In 2009/10 5,809 women were recruited to studies in our portfolio. Our aim is to have each acute Trust in GM CLRN recruiting to at least one portfolio study in 2012. In addition to facilitating recruitment of women into national multi-centre clinical trials we hope to help increase the number of studies which have a chief investigator based in this region. Research is not just for researchers, and we aspire to increase the knowledge and support of patients and frontline staff regarding Reproductive Health and Childbirth research in the NHS. Towards this end we publish a newsletter, CLaRioN.

For further information on what we do and how to access CLRN support, Leroy Edozien or Suzanne Thomas.
