Age and Ageing Specialty Group Remit
- Our goal is to harness the ageing-related research expertise and enthusiasm throughout the UK that is critical to the success of the NIHR research network.Formed in October 2008, the Age & Ageing national Specialty Group currently brings together interdisciplinary researchers in Wales, Scotland and 14 of the 25 Comprehensive Local Research Network (CLRN) regions in England.
Purpose :
Oversight of the NIHR UK portfolio of ageing research

- If your research is listed on the portfolio then it is eligible for service support funding from the CLRN/NHS R&D support funding to provide research nurses, NHS consultant sessional time, pharmacy costs etc to support patient recruitment into your study
- To advise NIHR on which clinical research studies should be listed on the portfolio
- To increase the number of ageing studies recruiting to target and on time by identifying and overcoming barriers to recruitment
- To raise awareness of the opportunities for NHS colleaguesto contribute to research with support from CLRN/NHS R&D funding
- To engage with all active and potentially active ageing researchers in the UK regions through local leads (see below for your local contact)
- To encourage collaborative ageing research activity
- To work with interested research funders/professional organisations to help develop new portfolio studies
