A number of additional organisations, groups and centres have been established in this area to provide support for research.

Biomedical Research Centres

The NIHR has created 12 Biomedical Research Centres within leading NHS and University partnerships to drive progress on innovation and translational research in biomedicine. The following are based in the London (S) CLRN area:

Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre Network

The Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC) Network is jointly supported by Cancer Research UK and the Departments of Health for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, providing a total of £35 million over five years to fund a network of 19 Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres across the UK. The London (S) CLRN area hosts two Experimental Cancer Research Centres;

  • Institute of Cancer Research, Experimental Cancer Research Centre
  • King's College London, Experimental Cancer Research Centre

Other organisations

King's Health Partners

King’s Health Partners is one of the UK’s five AHSCs. It brings together a world leading research led university (King’s College London) and three successful NHS Foundation Trusts (Guy’s and St Thomas’, King’s College Hospital and South London and Maudsley).

South London Health Innovation and Education Cluster (HIEC)

Made up of around 30 organisations in south London, forms the South London Health Innovation Education Cluster (HIEC) - one of the 17 new government funded networks aimed at delivering high quality patient care through better trained clinicians and faster translation and adoption of research and innovation.

Medical Research Council Centres

The Medical Research Council is a publicly-funded organisation dedicated to improving human health. We support research across the entire spectrum of medical sciences, in universities and hospitals, in our own units and institutes in the UK, and in our units in Africa.
