The London (S) CLRN Age & Ageing Specialty Group forms part of the UK’s first Ageing Research Network.
Its goal is to harness the ageing-related research expertise and enthusiasm throughout the UK that is critical to the success of the NIHR research network.
Formed in October 2008, the Age & Ageing National Specialty Group currently brings together interdisciplinary researchers in Wales, Scotland and England.

Specialty Group Lead: Professor Stephen Jackson
Professor Jackson graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1975 and, after general professional training and a research fellowship in Birmingham, underwent training in clinical pharmacology and geriatric medicine in London and San Antonio, Texas. He was appointed to a Senior Lectureship and subsequently a chair at King’s College London. He is currently Professor of Clinical Gerontology based at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Denmark Hill, London. His research interests are in the clinical pharmacology and physiology of ageing. He has been Chairman of the British Geriatrics Society Academic and Research Committee and a past Chairman of the BGS Drugs and Prescribing Section; is Chairman of the UK Association of Professors of Geriatric Medicine; is Chairman of the Royal College of Physicians Joint Specialty Committee for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics; is a member of the Department of Health’s Advisory Committee on Borderline Substances; a member of the SAC in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics; an examiner for the Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine; a member of the Regional Training Committees for Geriatric Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
