Dermatology

The role of the Dermatology Specialty Group is to support the delivery of dermatology clinical research studies that have been adopted onto the NIHR Comprehensive Research Network portfolio. As over 1,000 skin diseases have been described, the potential topic coverage of the Dermatology Speciality Group portfolio is very wide and includes: acne, eczema, and psoriasis, skin cancers, skin infections, skin disorders and rarer skin diseases.

Biography

Dr Catherine Smith is a Consultant Dermatologist and R&D lead for Dermatology at St. John's Institute of Dermatology, Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, Dermatology Deputy Chair and London CLRN Lead of Dermatology Specialty Group.

Main research interest is therapeutics, especially in relationship to inflammatory skin disease, and includes drug development (phase II-IV clinical trials), pharmacogenetics and drug toxicity (severe adverse drug reactions). Clinical research is conducted through the Skin Therapy Research Unit, which Dr Smith co-directs with Professor Jonathan Barker.
