Gastroenterology
The Gastroenterology Specialty Group is one of 23
Specialty Groups which provide national networks
of topic-specific expertise. These groups are key to
the success of the CCRN. They work at both national
and local levels to ensure the successful delivery of
research within their specialties. This means ensuring
that studies are delivered to target and on time.

The remit of the Gastroenterology Specialty Group is to support a national portfolio of high quality research studies relating to the pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of gastrointestinal disorders.
We support researchers to deliver high quality studies to time and target in the NHS. We do this by engaging with the existing research community and developing the research infastructure locally. The Gastroenterology Specialty Group’s portfolio includes:
- Diseases of the oesophagus and digestive tract
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Crohn’s disease
- Studies on the development and function of the digestive tract.
