The Musculoskeletal Specialty Group is one of 23
Specialty Groups which provide national networks
of topic-specific expertise. These groups are key to
the success of the CCRN. They work at both national
and local levels to ensure the successful delivery of
research within their specialties. This means ensuring
that studies are delivered to target and on time.
The remit of the Musculoskeletal Disorders Specialty Group is to support a national portfolio of structured research studies that will enhance our understanding of:
- Normal structure and function of joints, bone, muscle and cartilage
- Diseases resulting from problems with musculoskeletal structure and function
The Musculoskeletal Disorders Specialty Group portfolio includes studies on:
- Inflammatory joint diseases
- Non inflammatory joint diseases
- Non inflammatory connective tissue disease
- Bone diseases including osteoporosis, vitamin D related bone disease and Paget’s disease
- Musculoskeletal pain disorders including back pain, knee pain, shoulder pain and chronic widespread pain
- Elective orthopaedic surgery
- Other therapies such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, patient education and psychological.
