Surgery
The Surgery Specialty Group is one of 24 Specialty
Groups which provide national networks of topic-specific
expertise. These groups are key to the
success of the CCRN. They work at both national
and local levels to ensure the successful delivery of
research within their specialties. This means ensuring
that studies are delivered to target and on time.

The remit of the Surgery Specialty Group is to support a national portfolio of structured research studies in the field of surgical medicine. The Surgery Specialty Group’s portfolio includes:
- Breast surgery
- Cardiothoracic surgery
- Elective orthopaedic surgery
- Endocrine surgery
- Gastrointestinal surgery
- Vascular surgery
The Surgery Specialty Group will take the lead on research studies which are led by, or have significant input from surgeons. It works closely with the NIHR Cancer Research Network to support surgical oncology studies.
The Specialty Group promotes engagement of the surgical research community and provides the local support necessary to undertake high quality research studies within the NHS.
