As part of its remit to deliver infrastructure support, West Midlands (South) has a centralised team of research nurses and midwives working across all the Trusts in the region. The team is led by Zoe Cockbill, Nurse Lead, who is responsible for all aspects of recruitment and management, identifying training needs, liaising with investigators regarding study support and ensuring patient recruitment is maximised.
The Nursing and Midwifery team are available to cover the service support elements of all NIHR Portfolio studies where required and will work with the study team to assist in participant recruitment. This support can be provided for any stage of the research process from initiation to follow-up and includes assisting with the following activities:
- Protocol evaluation
- Feasibility assessment
- R&D applications
- Industry manager liaison
- Study set-up activities
- Delivering study related training
- Participant screening & recruitment
- Participant follow-up
- Data collection
- Site file maintenance
- Ensuring inspection readiness
Within the team there is a wide range of research expertise and clinical experience in diverse specialties including (but not limited to) cardiology, dermatology, ophthalmology, mental health, paediatrics, emergency medicine, nephrology and reproductive health.
