Positive publicity for dentistry research
An opinion article published on the British Dental Journal website claims that there has never been a better time for NHS dentists to get involved in research
The article aims to explain the recent changes in the NHS research support system as it applies to dentistry; information that will be of value to all clinical academics and dentists considering taking part in research.
The authors, many of which are inked to the NIHR Clinical Research Network through it's Specialy Groups function, outline changes which mean that research resources are directed to where research that demonstrates patient benefit is happening. They also describe how transparent mechanisms have been put in place to reimburse NHS organisations, including dental practices, that take part in research, as well as training clinicians in mandatory research skills.
