Patients and public

Taking part in research and shaping research

Patients are at the centre of our work. We ensure that the research we support is relevant to and benefits those who use primary care services by involving patients and the public at all stages of the research process. As a patient, carer or as a member of the public you can help research by:

participating in research - as patients/participants voluntarily taking part in clinical and other well designed studies
helping to shape how we do research - as patients and members of the public working with researcher professionals and clinicians (e.g. doctors, nurses) and getting actively involved in the different stages of research and related activities

INVOLVE (organisation)
A national advisory group which supports greater public involvement in NHS, public health and social care research. INVOLVE provides a range of publications/guides for researchers, members of the public and commissioners
People in research
This website is to help members of the public find out about how they can be involved in research and for researchers to find people to become involved in their work
The Picker Institute Europe
Picker Institute Europe is a not-for-profit organisation that makes patients' views count in healthcare.
LINKs (Local Involvement Networks)
LINks are made up of individuals and community groups, such as faith groups and residents' associations, working together to improve health and social care services.
