RDMIS CSP Module

The CSP Module is the system used by staff across NHS organisations and the Clinical Research Network to support the NIHR Coordinated System for gaining NHS Permission (CSP). It was introduced in stages starting in July 2011.

CSP Module message

The CSP Module has been launched in two phases. Stage 1 took place on 18 July so that new projects could be processed.

Stage 2 was released on 13 October so that the CSP Module is now the system for managing all studies previously processed through CSP ReDA, as well as all new studies.

The CSP Module release includes:

Automated workflows, communication tools and document management tools for:

  • The Portfolio Application Form (PAF) process
  • The R&D submission process
  • The Site Specific Information submission (SSI) process
  • The study wide and local governance review processes
  • The amendment process

Investigators will continue to submit their studies to NIHR CSP via the Integrated Research Application System (IRAS).

Access to the CSP Module:

User Access Phase 1 includes research governance staff who have current or recent access to CSP ReDA, those determining eligibility for the Clinical Research Network Portfolio and those responsible for managing or reporting on the CSP process. Identified CSP Users have been provided with specific instruction as to how to log on to the system. Users have been allocated to a variety of roles within the CSP process and clarity has been provided about which NHS organisation or Clinical Research Network they are undertaking that role on behalf of.

User Access Phase 2 includes the additional research governance staff that are required throughout the NHS and the CLRNs working on studies in CSP plus research facilitation staff across all Networks and those based in NHS organisations funded through those Networks. Phase 2 users will be added in batches during autumn 2011.

User Access Phase 3 Researcher and sponsor read only access will be available once the system has run for a few months. Research governance staff will be supporting researcher access so it is important that they have experience of using the new system before being asked to support others.

Support

All queries relating to the CSP Module system should be directed to the CSP Helpdesk (crncc.csp@nihr.ac.uk). These queries will then be dealt with by the necessary teams within the CRN Coordinating Centre and the NIHR Information Systems Function.

Please note that any queries relating to the resetting of portal passwords must be directed to the NIHR Service desk (servicedesk@nihr.ac.uk)

Training

Training will continue to be rolled out to users through a cascade process by local trainers. Researchers will get support from local research management and governance teams. An e-learning facility will also be made available to provide users with additional support and guidance in using the system.

System Testing

A number of users from across NHS organisations and the NIHR Clinical Research Network volunteered to take part in testing and we are very grateful for their input.
