Devolved administrations

Each of the four UK Health Administrations that utilise the UK Clinical Research Network Portfolio Database have developed criteria for determining which studies can be included in their respective portfolios.

Northern Ireland

The range of potential studies eligible for NICRN support will exceed the capacity of the NICRN to undertake those studies, therefore the NICRN does not support automatic eligibility. Instead there is a formal adoption process which ensures that the finite resources of the NICRN are used in a coherent and strategic manner for the benefit of the benefit of Health and Social Care.

Scotland

Applying to the Scottish Portfolio is done through the R&D Office at the relevant Health Board. Eligibility criteria and a list of eligible funders to the Scottish portfolio can be found on the Chief Scientist Office (CSO) website.

Wales

The Welsh eligibility criteria include studies where funding is awarded in open competition across Wales and other devolved administrations and is of relevant to NHS and/or social care.

The National Institute for Health and Social Care (NIHSCR) will also consider other high quality peer-reviewed studies deemed to be important in Wales for adoption onto their Portfolio.

The NIHSCR Adoption criteria are available on the NIHSCR website.
