How to apply for Clinical Research Network support
Use our simple flowchart to follow the process for application for Clinical Research Network support for non-commercial studies.
The process used to determine whether a non-commercial study (automatically eligible or potentially eligible) is eligible for Clinical Research Network (CRN) support has recently been reviewed as part of the NIHR CRN Service Improvement Programme.
A new streamlined process was developed and launched across the NIHR Clinical Research Networks on 2 April 2012.
The changes aim to improve consistency across the CRN, to reduce the average time taken to provide an eligibility decision and reduce the impact a delayed eligibility decision has on NHS permission being issued.
The NIHR Coordinated System for gaining NHS Permission (NIHR CSP) is the entry point for non-commercial studies applying for Clinical Research Network support. We are no longer accepting applications for studies that have already started recruiting patients.

- Industry sponsored studies
To work with us and benefit from the support we provide, commercially sponsored studies must first be adopted into the NIHR CRN Portfolio. This can be done in two ways:
1. Contact the appropriate Clinical Research Network directly or
2. On submission of your validated Portfolio Application Form the appropriate Network will be notified about your study and will contact you.

- Industry funded, non-industry sponsored studies
The information above for non-commercial studies also applies to industry funded, non-industry sponsored studies (or investigator-initiated trials).
