Yeovil District NHS Foundation Trust
Yeovil Hospital is an NHS Foundation Trust that delivers cutting-edge care and some of the best facilities in the UK within a local and friendly environment. Yeovil has a population of over 41,000 people. Yeovil District Hospital provides acute care for a population of about 180,000, mostly in South Somerset, North and West Dorset, and parts of Mendip.
The Acute Stroke Unit was set up at Yeovil in 2005, and provides specialist care for up to 14 patients. We have a dedicated team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and a Stroke Nurse Consultant within the hospital and local community. There are also well established Stroke Rehabilitation Units with beds at Shepton Mallet Hospital, Wincanton Community Hospital and, this year, there will be 16 beds at South Petherton where a new community hospital is being built.
We have a long standing Research team which is supported by the Stroke Research Network (SRN). We have been actively recruiting into stroke trials since 2003. Our aim is to provide a broad range of data to improve the future of stroke care.
Currently, the team is recruiting patients to stroke research studies which cover a very broad range of scientific questions from hyper-acute care to rehabilitation and prevention.
