Our Human Tissue Act e-learning module for CLRN and NHS R&D office governance staff is being released today.

Staff can access it through the NIHR Clinical Research Network learning management system (LMS). Additional modules will be released over the next few months covering a range of key legislative topics such as, the Mental Capacity Act and regulations relating to the use of radiation in research.

The training programme:

  • covers a range of legislative topics relating to the conduct of research. By making use of the latest online technology, the programme has enabled a group of experienced RM&G trainers from across England to participate in live webinar training sessions from the comfort of their desks. Similarly, the e-learning modules will allow convenient access to training materials for R&D staff
  • involves locally-led workshops to bring together trainers and R&D staff who have completed the e-learning modules to share their learning and suggest practical approaches to NHS research governance review

Sylvia Westrup is one of the trainers from the Kent and Medway NIHR Comprehensive Local Research Network and highly recommends the course:

“Excellent initiative to give staff a deeper understanding of the regulations affecting clinical research in the UK. More confident and knowledgeable staff will result in more efficient research governance approval times, in line with the Department of Health’s aim to increase clinical research”.
