"Research People"is a collection of short films in which members of the NHS research community explain "who they are, what they do, and why they do it". They filmed themselves at home, at work and on their travels. The result is a set of informal films that are between one to four minutes long, which give fresh insight into the motivation of those involved and their passion for research.
And white coats are not compulsory. As well as health professionals such as GPs, nurses and pharmacists, the project features patients who have taken part in studies and helped researchers improve the design of patient information.
Dr Jonathan Sheffield, Chief Executive of the NIHR Clinical Research Network said,
"Although more than half a million patients took part in NIHR Clinical Research Network studies during 2010-11, many people are still unaware of what research involves.
"It's not just about laboratories. When you enter an NHS Trust, familiar faces may well be making research happen.From your GP to your nurse and from your pharmacist to your consultant, they could all be involved in studies that drive innovation to improve your standard of care.
"Research People" is an important step in demystifying research and helping the public to understand that many people play an invaluable role in delivering research to improve the treatment and services available to patients."
